Biography
Born in 1987, Mylou Oord is a self-taught photographer, focusing mainly on portrait, documentary and fashion photography. Since an early age she found herself fascinated with culture, art and most of all photography.
Since 2007 the world has been a playground for Mylou. She has been featured in multiple group exhibitions in locales like Istanbul and Amsterdam and has published in numerous magazines, Blend, Vice and Out magazine to name a few.
Oord assisted succesful Dutch fashion photography duo Petrovsky&Ramone for approximately 2 years, in this time she learned a lot about fashion photography and postproduction.
Momentarily she is collaborating with fashion journalist Aynouk Tan on a weekly column on fashion in the Dutch newspaper 'NRC Handelsblad', Tan's persona also lends itself to Mylou's first solo exhibition 'It would be so nice'. Set to open at the world-renowned FOAM museum of photography in Amsterdam on January 24th.
Mylou's photography is unique in the feeling it invokes in the spectator. Each image creates the illusion of a one on one conversation with the photographed subject. The essence of her work is creating an emotional bond with the photographed subject and transferring this bond to the image and the spectator.
